How to Pre-Order GTA 6: Guide
Pre-Orders Are Live
HOW TO PRE ORDER GTA 6 Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 are live, and this is how you pre-order the game. There are two ways you can pre-order GTA 6. You can get a physical copy or a digital copy. Both have pros and cons.
How to Pre-Order Digitally
First, we will go over how to pre-order it digitally. To start, go to your PlayStation or Xbox store. I recommend doing it on your console, but you can also use your phone or a computer.
Upon accessing the digital store, you will be greeted with GTA 6 on the front page. They are rolling out pre-orders locally at midnight. So whenever it hits midnight your time from June 24th to the 25th, you can pre-order it.
Pricing and Editions
So I’m on a New Zealand account right now because that’s the first country that got it. That’s why the standard edition is priced way higher. So it depends on your currency.
In USD, it’s $80 or $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate AK Collector’s Edition.
If you click on the three dots, you can select different versions. More on that later. Now, all you have to do is purchase the game. When you did that, you can find it in your PlayStation or Xbox game library.

PlayStation vs. Xbox Payments
Also, a little heads up. PlayStation takes payment right away for pre-orders, but Xbox takes payment 10 days before release. So, if you’re on Xbox and pre-order GTA 6, they won’t take your money until November 9, 2026.
The pro of getting it digitally is that you will be able to play GTA 6 as soon as it releases, and you will probably also be able to preload the game. That way, we don’t have to download the game all at the same time, which may cause some issues.
Console Settings for Automatic Downloads
I also recommend going to PlayStation settings. I don’t know if this also works on Xbox, but it works on a PS5.
Go to System, System Software, then to Update and Settings, and turn both these settings on:
- Download Update Files Automatically
- Install Update Files Automatically
Now, back out a couple of times and go to Save Data and Game App Settings.
Go to Automatic Updates and also turn on these two:
- Auto Download
- Auto Install in Rest Mode
This way, your pre-order copy of GTA 6 will automatically download and you will be guaranteed to get all GTA 6-related updates as soon as they release.
Physical Pre-Orders
To pre-order a physical copy, you can go to your local game store or pre-order a physical copy online.
The downside of this is that you will have to wait until they deliver the physical copy of GTA 6 to you or you have to pick it up, and that’s always later than the actual release time.

One thing a lot of people forget is to double-check which account they’re using before placing the pre-order. If you have more than one PlayStation or Xbox account, make sure you’re buying the game on the one you actually play with. It only takes a few seconds to check, but it can save you from a really frustrating mistake later.
If you’re still deciding whether to go digital or physical, think about how you normally buy your games. I switched to digital a while ago because I like having everything ready to play without changing discs. But if you’re someone who enjoys collecting game cases or plans to keep GTA 6 on your shelf, then a physical copy might feel more worth it despite the extra wait.
